​The couple Catita and Sister Darlene lives in an
isolated house, amidst an immense sugar cane field. He secretly engages in Maracatu performances,
considered a demonic act and fought against by Pastor Barachinha, leader of the faithful Darlene’s church. In the same field, a pai-de-santo practices a religious ritual along five other men, who become
possessed by spiritual entities and disappear. The city of Nazaré da Mata witnesses these mysterious events.​
