​Winner of the Jury Prize at the Cannes Festival, the film tells the story of Zain, a Lebanese boy who sues his parents for bringing him to life. The brave and nimble boy leads a tough life. He runs away from his abusive and neglectful parents, survives in the streets thanks to his cleverness, takes cares of the Ethiopian refugee Rahil and her baby Yonas, is arrested for a violent crime, and ultimately seeks justice at the court. The film touches hearts at the same time it calls for action. The cast is composed by non-professional actors who play stories similar to their own.​

Nadine Labaki

​Born in 1974 in Lebanon. She grew up in the country’s civil war years. She graduated in Audiovisual Studies from the University of San Jose in Beirut. In 2005 she directed and starred her first feature, Caramel, which premiered at the Directors' Fortnight at the 2007 Cannes Festival, and won the Young Jury Prize. Her second feature, Where Do We Go Now?, broke the box office record an Arabic film in Lebanon, position still held today.​
