This biopic on Princess Diana of Wales centers on the last two years of her life. The film recounts her liaison with Pakistani doctor Hasnat Khan and her shaky relationship with his family, who was opposed to their wedding. That is when Diana meets Egyptian millionaire Dodi Fayed, with whom she initiates a relationship under the spotlights and flashbulbs of newsmen and paparazzi the entire world over. The couple would eventually pass away in a tragic car accident in a Paris tunnel in 1997. Directed by german Oliver Hirschbiegel (Downfall), the film stars Naomi Watts.
Oliver Hirschbiegel
Born in Hamburg, Germany, 1959. He graduated in film studies at Hamburg’s University of Fine Arts. His directorial debut came with the TV movie Das Go! Projekt (1986). Among his better known works are The Experiment (2001), Downfall (2004), nominated for an Oscar in the Best Foreign Film category, The Invasion (2007) and Five Minutes to Heaven (2009). In television, he has directed some episodes of the french-german series Borgia (2011).
