We are at a big hospital in the outskirts of a small city in the middle of the Thuringian Forest, central Germany. That is where Johannes is doing his alternative military service. The head-doctor, general director of the institution and a family friend, was the one who recruited him. There, Johannes meets Ana. The night they first share a kiss, a sex offender flees from the hospital. His escape and the police’s frenzied attempts to locate him underscore Johannes and Ana’s story – a hopeless love story that transcends boundaries. First part of the Dreileben Trilogy, Berlin 2001.
