It’s common to state that Syria is the land of murdered filmmakers, since anyone with a camera or cell phone becomes an immediate target for snipers. Exiled in Paris since 2011, the director Ossama Mohammed has collected thousands of online videos that portray the daily atrocities happening in his country, recording the horrors of civil war through shocking images. Mohammed also makes use of the material supplied by Simav Bedirxan a young Kurdish woman whose footage during the Siege of Homs, dialogues with the director’s material. Shown at the Cannes Festival 2014 .
Ossama Mohammed, Wiam Simav Bedirxan
Ossama Mohammed nasceu em 1954 na Síria. Formou-se em cinema pela VGIK Film School, em Moscou. Étoiles de jour, seu filme de estreia, foi exibido na Quinzena dos Realizadores 1988. Trabalhou como roteirista em Al-Lail (1992), de Mohammad Malas. The Box of Life, seu segundo filme, foi exibido na mostra Um Certo Olhar de Cannes 2002. Atualmente, vive em exílio em Paris. Wiam Simav Bedirxan é um documentarista curda. Este é seu primeiro filme.
