The controversial presence of hundreds of young Americans in Brazil’s northeast in the 1960s, members of the Peace Corps program, is this documentary’s central theme. Through testimonies, archive material and historical documents, the film sheds light to the contradictions between Kennedy's US foreign policy and the volunteers’ motivations. The 1964 military coup in Brazil, the Vietnam War, the CIA infiltration in Latin America complete the scenario and reveal the elites' fear that the Brazilian Northeast would become a "new Cuba."

Nasceu em Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, e vive há 10 anos no Recife. Como realizador, pesquisador e roteirista, atuou em documentários para Cinema e TV. Como pesquisador e acadêmico, dedicou-se ao estudo do documentário, particularmente à cinematografia norte-americana dos anos 1960. É professor do curso de cinema da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco. Este é seu primeiro longa-metragem como diretor.
