Mangueira was the champion of the 2016 carnival competition with its tribute to Maria Bethânia, highlighting the peculiar religiosity of the singer, who is a devout catholic and candomblé follower. The film delves into the construction of this carnival, from the sketches of the first images to the parades on the avenue. Following Maria Bethânia to the Bahia’s Recôncavo basin, engaging in familial and religious environments and being part of celebrations in her hometown, Santo Amaro, portraying the universe that inspired the lyrics and unveiling some influences that the Recôncavo had in Rio’s samba.

É diretor do projeto Palavras Cruzadas, que promove espetáculos a partir de encontros entre músicos, poetas e artistas visuais.
