‘Break Mississippi and you break the South.’ This was the strategy used by over 700 university students who went to the segregationist state in 1964 to register black voters. Through interviews and old footage, the documentary revisits the turbulent summer of 1964, a period of civil rights activism. The film highlights the involvement of Robert Moses, in his campaign that brought hundreds of volunteers to the state to participate in the National Democratic Convention. Screened at Sundance Film Festival 2014.
Stanley Nelson
Nasceu em 1951 em Nova York. Formado em belas artes pela City College of New York, seus filmes são conhecidos por examinarem a história e a experiência negra nos Estados Unidos, como o recente Freedom Riders (2010), ganhador de três Emmy. Além de cofundador da Firelight Media, produtora que oferece educação técnica e apoio profissional para documentaristas iniciantes, Nelson é membro da Academia de Artes e Ciências Cinematográficas.
