Life and work of Hal Ashby (1929-1988), the singular genius who led to an unprecedented string of Oscar-winning films in the 1970s, emerge on interviews with actors Jane Fonda, Jon Voight and Jeff Bridges, and directors Alexander Payne and Norman Jewison, among many others. Ashby directed awarded films like Harold and Maude (1971), Shampoo (1975), and Coming home (1978). While on the outside Ashby embodied a quintessential peaceful vibe,
internally he was dealing with deeper issues that he then transformed into the main themes of his work. Sundance 2018.
