Over the course of 10 years – between 2002 and 2012 –, the Iraqi filmmaker Kasim Abid filmed, from the windows of the his homes in the streets of three different cities: Arbil in Kurdistan, in the north east of the country; Ramallah in Palestine; Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. His footage, accompanied by direct sound, without dialogues or narration, reveals a ballet of men, machines and the daily struggle of the human spirit. It conveys the filmmaker’s faith in his people’s courage and capacity for resistance.
Kasim Abid
Nasceu em Bagdá, onde estudou no Instituto de Belas Artes. Fez mestrado em direção de fotografia pela VGIK de Moscou. Estabeleceu-se em Londres a partir de 1982, onde começou sua carreira como câmera e produtor de locação para o canal Arab News Network. Dirigiu documentários para a TV e filmou seu primeiro longa, Life After the Fall (2008), por cinco anos, após a queda do ditador Saddam Hussein. Este é seu segundo longa.
