Ah Huat leads a harsh life and studies at a very strict school where they still use very outmoded forms of punishment. He is misunderstood by his teacher and is constantly humiliated and punished. His father is an alcoholic and he must care for his sister, who has Down Syndrome. Syafiqah, a girl going through her parents’ divorce, goes to live with her grandfather for a while. They become classmates and start to bond. After contemplating an escape, they end creating their own space of freedom in the woods, far away from the complicated world of the adults who continually go after Ah Huat.

Chen-Hsi Wong

Born in Singapore, she studied at the School of Film Arts in Los Angeles. She has directed the shorts Who Loves the Sun (2006), Conversations on Sago Lane (2010) and Image-Makers (2012). This is her feature-length directorial debut.
