​Charley is 15 years old and has just arrived in Portland with his single dad. They both need a new beginning after going through tough moments. While his dad is still dealing with personal demons, Charley finds comfort in Lean on Pete, a racehorse. Based on the romance by Willy Vlautin and winner of the Marcelo Mastroianni Award for Best Actor (Charlie Plummer) at the Venice Festival.​

​Born in 1973 in England. He is a director and producer. His first feature was Greek Pete, in 2009, followed by Weekend, in 2011. His latest film, 45 Years (2015), premiered at the Berlin Festival and won two Silver Bears, for Best Actress (Charlotte Rampling) and Best Actor (Tom Courtnay). The film has received other international awards and has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress.​
