Apart from being a multimillion dollar business, drug cartels in Mexico constitute a lifestyle which prizes drug dealers as authentic national celebrities. In this culture there is the “narcorrido”, a musical genre popular both in Mexico and the US, mostly financed by the dealers. Following a narcorrido singer in Los Angeles and a policeman in Juarez – a Mexican city that registers the world’s highest homicide rates –, the film examines relations between trafficking, violence and the culture produced by them in the US-Mexico border.
