Germany, 1912. A man from a simple background gets a job as a steelworker. Because of his good work, his boss promotes him to the role of private secretary. Before long, he and his boss's wife fall in love, but by chance, he is suddenly sent to Mexico. Separated by an ocean, the two exchange letters while waiting for the day they will be reunited. On the eve of his return the World War begins, resulting in the suspension of all sea voyages, and the love between the two needs to survive the brutal passage of time. Venice 2014 .
Patrice Leconte
Nasceu em 1947 em Paris. Estudou cinema no Institut des Hautes études cinematographiques na década de 1960, período em que também trabalhou como cartunista, em especial para a revista franco-belga Pilote. Como cineasta, conquistou reconhecimento internacional com o longa Monsieur Hire, exibido no Festival de Cannes 1989. De sua produção das últimas décadas, destacam-se Man on the Train (2002) e a animação A pequena loja de suicídios (2012).
