Rafael has been part of the cleaning staff at the same light bulb factory for the last 30 years. A dedicated employee, on the eve of his retirement – an occasion for which he even bought new shoes – he finds that, being an illegal immigrant, he is not entitled to any benefits. Lidia has devoted most of her life in caring for a spoiled rich lady. When her employer dies, she finds out that her dog is going to inherit all the fortune. And now her new boss eats off of golden bowls. Lonely, they will wage, each in their own way, a war: Rafael against the company, Lidia versus the dog. Berlin 2013.

José Luis Valle

Born in El Salvador, he is also a Mexican citizen. He is the author of Cali e Mona, a book in braille for visually impaired children. His documentary El milagro del Papa (2009) was featured at Locarno and his short Vieja el ultimo won the One Minute for Human Rights award, from the UN Organization. His films The Searches (2013) is also featured this year at Festival do Rio.
