​This Polish drama tells the passionate and improbable love story between two people who meet in an era of divide. During the Cold War, between Stalinist Poland and Bohemian Paris in the 1950s, a freedom-loving musician and a passionate young singer with different backgrounds and temperaments live an impossible love story in an impossible time. From the same director of Ida (2013), winner of the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, the film was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the award for best director. Nominated for the People's Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival.​

Pawel Pawlikowski

​Born in 1957 in Poland. He started his career as a director with a series of awarded documentaries in the 1990s. His feature films have been screened and awarded around the world, and include the acclaimed Last Resort (2000) and My Summer of Love (2004), both awarded at the BAFTA. In 2003 Ida received the Academy Award for Best Film in Foreign Language and was also nominated for the Golden Globes.​
