Eyes of Rio on Palestine's "Eyes of a Thief"
Director Najwa Najjar will present the international premiere of her second feature, Eyes of a Thief, on Saturday at 17.00 at Estação Rio 2. The West Bank thriller has just been chosen as Palestine's contender in the best-foreign-language film category. Last year the country's Omar made the short list.
Najjar hopes to be supported at the screening by the film's star, the heart-throb of the new generation of "Young Egyptian Cinema", Khaleed Abol Naga, and the film's producer Hani Kort.
Inspired by true events, the film tells the story of Tareq who is released from an Israeli prison and returns to his hometown in Palestine, a place transformed by drastic changes and filled with secrets, to find his daughter. As secrets are uncovered, light is shed on the stifling nature of contemporary Palestinian society, revealing Tareq's hidden past.
