Today it’s all go at the Festival do Rio. With an array of debates, Q&As, gala screenings, special guests and sessions dedicated to the great Orson Welles, there will plenty of opportunity for the exchange of cinematic ideas between the public, directors, producers and experts.

At 5.15pm professor Adalberto Müller, from the Federal University Fluminense, will lead a debate about Orson Welles’ lesser-known cinematic endeavours, offering what promises to be fascinating insights. Müller, who has spent many years studying Welles’ unfinished works, will disclose contextual information relating to each film screened.

The debates that are part of our Frontiers series continue tonight at 7pm with the showing of Chronicle of a Revolt – One Year Istanbul, presented by the directors Biene Pilavci and Ayla Gottschlich. After the screening, the German-Turkish directing duo will take part in a round table that compares the street demonstrations that took place in Turkey and Brazil in 2013.

The Brazilian director Marcos Prado is here with his cast and crew to present his most recent documentary, Brasil vs. Brasil, ay 7.15pm in the Cinépolis Lagoon 6, as part of our Panorama series.

American director Hal Hartley will continue his series of screenings by presenting Flirt at 7.45pm at the Instituto Moreira Salles. The session is part of the Festival do Rio’s 2015 Hal Hartley homage.

At 9pm in the Cinépolis Lagoon 5, German director Angsar Ahlers will present his film Bach in Brazil, a feature-length that was filmed in Brazil with the support of Rio de Janeiro based production company Conspiração.

The evening’s entertainment comes to a dazzling close with a special gala screening of Xuxa in Crystal Moon, 25 years after the film first hit the cinemas. The event will take place at midnight, at the Estação NET Botafogo 1 and will be presented by director Tizuka and other invited guests.
