On Thursday night at the festival pavilion Festival do Rio will announce the winners of the competitive sections of the festival. The official jury for Première Brasil decides to which films, producers, directors, actors, and crew the festival’s official prizes are awarded, and who gets to take home the Redentor. A trophy inspired by the city’s statue of Christ.

Eleven fiction features, eight feature length documentaries and 17 shorts, most of which have had their world premieres in Rio during the festival, are up for the jury’s consideration in Première Brasil. A jury consisting of Fabiano Canosa, Lázaro Ramos, Doris Hegner, Helena Ignez, and Marie-Pierre Macia,

On Thursday we will also learn what the festival going public in Rio has chosen to be the best feature film, best documentary and best short from Première Brasil in 2013.

Première Brasil’s New Trends section has its own jury - Anna Azevedo, António Ferreira, and Maria Flor - that will pick from six features and two documentaries. The FIPRESCI jury – made up of international film critics – will also vote for the best Latin American Film at the festival.
