WELLES, GLAUBER AND SGANZERLA, with Joel Pizzini (director)

Mediation: João Luiz Vieira (Universidade Federal Fluminense)

The directors Nelson Pereira dos Santos and Joel Pizzini will form a roundtable to discuss the impact and the possible and probable influences of Welles’ work on Brazilian cinema.  Nelson Pereira dos Santos is one of the biggest names of the Brazilian movement “Cinema Novo”, director of the iconic Brazilian film, Vidas Secas, who experienced firsthand the golden age of Welles in the USA and in Europe. Joel Pizzini, is an important authority on Brazilian director Rogério Sganzerla’s fixation for the American director’s work, a fixation that led Sganzerla to make four films about Welles. Pizzini is the author of the film Mr. Sganzerla, in which Welles features as a sort of phantom of the opera, a haunting influence.
