Cáit is a nine-year-old girl who has a huge, needy, and dysfunctional family. As summer approaches and her mother is due to give birth, she is sent home to distant relatives with only the clothes on her back. The new life with strangers gradually suits her, until such time as the girl makes a painful discovery.
