Introducing the Brazilian Films Selected for Festival do Rio’s Première Brasil in 2024 Festival do Rio will present over 80 new Brazilian productions in Première Brasil, including feature films and shorts. The films in the competitive sections will compete for the festival’s highly prized Redentor trophies in a number of categories.
Considered one of the main showcases and shop windows for Brazilian cinema, Festival do Rio, that takes place from 3 to 13 October 2024 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has selected over 80 Brazilian productions – features and shorts – for the 26th edition of the festival, showcasing a wide panorama of young and established filmmakers, with all the diversity and creativity that Brazilian cinema in known for.
Festival do Rio received 752 entries for Première Brasil in 2024 – 222 features and 530 shorts –from filmmakers from across Brazil, as well as co-productions with Brazil. There will be 31 world premieres amongst the features selected for Première Brasil, screening in official competition, New Directions, Portraits, The State of Things, Midnight Movies and Hors Concours, among other festival sections.
Première Brasil also offers face-to-face sessions and debates with the cast and crews of the films screening and gives the public the opportunity to get to know and see the Brazilian films that will be on cinema screens across the country and streaming over the coming year. Co-productions with Brazil and restored Brazilian classics also make up the vast and varied selection on offer.
Each evening films in the Première Brasil competition and New Trends are screened at Estação NET Gavea, The films then screen the following afternoon, followed by the directors, actors and crew members taking part in an open discussion with the audience. The discussion mediated by an industry insider.
In 2024, the competitive debates of Première Brasil are taking place at the Cine Odeon - CCLSR, while the Estação NET Rio is the venue for the talks on New Trends and The State of Things.
