The Mexican film industry is being honoured by Festival do Rio in Focus Mexico and other sidebars. Some of the most recent productions from Mexico are being highlighted in one of the festival’s centerpieces, as well as the screening of a number of Mexican classics.

The films are being supported not only by their filmmakers, but also by a sizeable Mexican film industry delegation that will participate in RioMarket.

One of there films, Cantinflas, has been chosen by Mexico to represent it in the foreign language category at the Academy Awards.  Directed by Sebastian del Amo, and starring Oscar Jaenada and Michael Imperiol, the film is the story of Mario Moreno, better known to the world as Cantinflas. He came to worldwide attention for his performance as Passepartoute opposite David Niven in Around the World in 80 Days. In all Cantinflas acted in more than 50 features.

Mexico and Brazil are the two economic giants of Latin America, and that is also true when it comes to media and film.
