Terrestrial Verses follows everyday people from all walks of life as they navigate the cultural, religious, and institutional constraints imposed on them by various social authorities, from school teachers to bureaucrats. These stirring vignettes, humorous and affecting, capture the spirit and determination of Iranian people amidst adversity, offering a nuanced portrait of a complex society. Exihibited at Un Certain Regard at Cannes 2023.
Alireza Khatami e Ali Asgari
Alireza Khatami is an award-winning Iranian-American filmmaker, born of the indigenous Khamse people. He worked with Asghar Farhadi and won awards at Venice with his first feature, Oblivion Verses (2017). Ali Asgari is a prominent figure in Iranian cinema. His short films More Than Two Hours (2013) and The Silence (2016) disputed the Palme d'Or in Cannes. His feature Disappearance (2017) was screened at Venice and Until Tomorrow (2022) at the Berlinale.
