When Saul Armendariz, (Gael García Bernal) begins to compete in Mexican wrestling at the end of the 1980s, he refuses to assume the role of an exotic drag fighter. However on getting to know Sabrina, Saúl not only gains a trainer but also a friend who helps him to find the courage to assume his personality inside and outside the ring. After facing many challenges he creates the Cassandro, an improbable, openly gay, hero who helps Saul to change how he sees himself and develop a new proposal for his own life.
