In a small city in northern China, the lives of different characters cross paths. To protect a friend, young Wei Bu pushes the school’s bully down the stairs and runs away after the boy is taken to the hospital with his life hanging in the balance. Wang Jin, a 60-year-old neighbor who lives in constant conflict with his son and daughter-in-law, decides to join Wei. Huang Ling, Wei’s best friend, is troubled for keeping an affair with the school’s vice principal. Desperate, the three decide to escape together. The film has been awarded at the Berlin festival
Hu Bo
Born in 1988 in China. He graduated at the Beijing Film Academy, in 2014, with a major in film direction. His short film Distant Father (2014) received the Golden Koala for Best Director at the Chinese Film Festival. Hu Bo killed himself at the age of 29, in 2017, right after finalizing his first and only feature film, An Elephant Sitting Still.
