This documentary is based on an essay by acclaimed writer Jonathan Franzen (author of Freedom), published in The New Yorker. It reveals how thousands of songbirds embark on a long journey of migration and are killed or captured every year in the Mediterranean, yielding large sums of money on the black market. The film follows a squad of intrepid defenders of these animals, who cross Europe and risk their lives in a secret war against poachers. Destroying their traps, they release as many birds as possible. Screened at IDFA 2014.
