Lin’s home life is a mess. His mother is unemployed and has to ask for money to pay for her husband’s leukemia treatment. His older sister started to work as a cleaner and soon after became a prostitute. Lin is fed up of being bullied for his father’s illness. One day, on a riverbank he discovers an abandoned ship where a father and his strange daughter are living. They become friends and as their friendship develops, he begins to miss school and his teacher is forced to pay a visit to his mother. Screened at Un Certain Regard, Cannes 2014.
Chao Wang
Nasceu em 1964 em Nanjing, na China. Filho de operários, trabalhou como siderúrgico antes de ingressar na Escola de Cinema de Pequim e se tornar crítico. Foi assistente de Chen Kaige, diretor de filmes como Adeus, minha concubina (1993). Em 2001, dirigiu seu primeiro longa, Anyangde guer, exibido na Quinzena dos Realizadores no Festival de Cannes do mesmo ano. Sagrou-se vencedor da mesma mostra em 2006, com Luxury Car.
