In Somalia, Abdi, a young father, becomes involved in piracy to support his family. Whilst his wife and son wait for him in Yemen, Abdi and his fellow pirates go out to high sea, invade a French petrol tanker and demand a substantial ransom. During a long and tedious wait for the money, Abdi strikes up a friendship with one of the hostages, whilst the other pirates begin to resort to violence. Filmed in east Africa with non professional Somalian actors. Award for Best Director Dramatic at the Sundance Film Festival 2014
Cutter Hodierne
Nasceu em 1986 em São Francisco, nos EUA. Começou sua carreira em Washington, onde dirigiu diversos videoclipes e o curta-metragem The Bicycle Thief (2008). Em 2009, excursionou com a banda U2, encarregado de realizar as filmagens da turnê mundial do grupo. Fishing Without Nets, seu curta-metragem, ganhou o prêmio do júri em sua categoria no Sundance Film Festival 2012 e deu origem ao seu longa de estreia.
