In Cape Town, Jezriel a 13-year-old chess prodigy is dragged into young gang life in the second largest city in South Africa. Through four stories that intertwine around Jezriel, the film reveals the conflict between the age old wars of south African gangs. It combines the Sabel, Tsotsi-Taal and Cape Afrikaans dialects and uses non-actors chosen in the schools and communities of the Cape Flats. The film was selected to represent South Africa in the category of Best Foreign Film in the Oscars 2014.
Ian Gabriel
Nasceu em 1951 em Durban. É um dos diretores de comerciais mais prolíficos da África do Sul. Durante as décadas de 1970 e 1980, trabalhou como produtor na Dorkay House, o famoso teatro multirracial de Joanesburgo. Já se destacou nos festivais de publicidade televisiva de San Sebastián, Veneza, Cannes, Nova York, Londres, Milão, África do Sul e Hong Kong. Atualmente, desenvolve documentários e longas de ficção de temática sul-africana.
