Janis Joplin is one of the most influential rock figures of all time, but her contribution to global culture goes beyond that. She inspired a generation and opened the door for female rockers who later emerged around the world. More important than her turbulent affairs and addiction problems was her profound commitment to music, right up until her sudden death at the age of 27. In this documentary, Janis herself narrates her story through letters she wrote to her family, friends and lovers. The letters are read by Chan Marshall/Cat Power.
