In 1921 the farmer Jimmy has the audacity to build a dance hall in rural Ireland. A meeting place for young idealists, the place is seen badly by the more conservative of the town. 10 years later, after a long exile in the United States, Jimmy comes back to his homeland to take care of his mother and family. With new hopes in the air after nearly 10 years of civil war, Jimmy decides to reopen the hall. The success is immediate but the progressive ideas don’t please everyone in the village and tensions rise. From the director Ken Loach. Cannes Festival 2014.
Ken Loach
Nasceu em 1936 em Coventry. Formou-se em direito pela Universidade de Oxford e iniciou sua carreira dirigindo filmes para a TV na BBC. Com sua obra realista, voltada para questões sociais, se consolidou como um dos maiores nomes do cinema britânico. Entre seus filmes mais recentes, destacam-se Ventos da liberdade, Palma de Ouro no Festival de Cannes 2006, e À procura de Eric, vencedor do prêmio do júri na edição de 2009 do mesmo festival.
