​Kubo lives with his mother in a Japanese coastal town. While telling a story, he accidentally summons a vengeful mythical spirit from the past, who makes all gods and monsters chase him. To survive, Kubo will have to find the magic armor used by his father, a legendary samurai warrior, and save his family. He gradually learns about the mysteries involving his father. In this journey, he is helped by Monkey and Beetle, and uses a magical musical instrument called shamisen to fight his opponents, Moon King and the Sisters.​
