In a hipothetical Paris devastated by the Third World War, the few surviving humans research a way to time travel, so they can send someone in search of food, water and maybe a solution for the terríble state in which they find themselves. One man is haunted by a vague childhood memory which will prove disastrous.

Foi diretor e roteirista, conhecido por Sans soleil (1983) e Description d'un combat (1960). Seu filme La jetée serviu de inspiração para o filme Os 12 macacos (1995), de Terry Gilliam.
