In London the sudden death of young Kai leaves Richard, her boyfriend, in a state of intense grief and mourning. Feeling responsible, Richard tries to get closer to Kai’s mother, the Cambodian Junn. Although Junn doesn’t speak much English, her dislike of her son in law is obvious. Richard hires a translator in order to facilitate communication and the two unlikely relatives try to bridge the gap of understanding through their memories of Kai.
