From November 2013 to march 2014, the Independence Square in Kiev was the stage for a social movement where citizens from all classes united to protest against Ukrainian president Víktor Yanukovich’s government. Director Sergei Loznitsa (My Joy) tracked the progress of the protests that had the square as a backdrop, from the peaceful demonstrations with half a million gathered in the streets, to bloody battles between protesters and police, up until the collapse of Yanukovich, who was forced to resign in March. Sergei Loznitsa
Nasceu em 1964 na Bielorrússia, na antiga União Soviética. Formou-se em matemática em Kiev e trabalhou como tradutor de japonês antes de estudar cinema na VGIK, na Rússia. É diretor de 11 documentários, entre curtas e longas. Minha felicidade, sua primeira incursão na ficção, foi exibido na competição oficial do Festival de Cannes 2010. In the Fog, seu trabalho seguinte, ganhou o prêmio FIPRESCI na edição de 2012 do mesmo festival.
