​Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival 2018. After one of their shoplifting sessions, Osamu and his son come across a little girl in the freezing cold. At first reluctant to shelter the girl, Osamu’s wife agrees to take care of her after learning of the hardships she faces. Although the family is poor, barely making enough money to survive through petty crime, they seem to live happily together until an unforeseen incident reveals hidden secrets, and put the bonds that unite them to test.

Hirokazu Koreeda

​Born 1962 in Tokyo, Japan. In 1995, his directorial debut, Maborosi, based on the original novel by Miyamoto Teru, won the 52nd Venice International Film Festival’s Golden Osella. After Life (1998), distributed in over 30 countries, brought Koreeda international acclaim. His films won many others awards, like the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival for Like Father, Like Son (2013). ​
