Documentary about the life of singer and pop icon M.I.A. Born in Sri Lanka during the Tamil independence movement, Mathangi Maya Arulpragasam - M.I.A. - fled to London with her mother and brothers at the age of nine. Planning to become a documentary filmmaker, she returned to Sri Lanka and began filming her family members. Using personal video recordings from the past 22 years, the film reveals how the artist uses pop music as a political tool. Winner of the Special Jury Prize at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival.

He is a British digital artist and director. In 2002 he made his first animated short film, No Experience Necessary. Matangi/ Maya/ M.I.A. is his first feature documentary, and it tells the controversial story of the artistic life of M.I.A., his teenage friend.
