JT LeRoy published his first novel at the age of 19. With traumatic and moving autobiographical elements, JT had a meteoric rise to literary fame. Highly reclusive, he start to leave his cocoon to meet his new fans, who included Gus Van Sant and Lou Reed. However, his closer friends noticed something was wrong when his stories differed from one conversation to another. This documentary tells the story of the improbable rise of LeRoy, with his thirst for fame and recognition, which resulted in the greatest literary scandal of the century.
