​The film examines the origins of drug trafficking in Colombia, through the epic story of a Wayuu indigenous family, that was involved in the prosperous market of selling marijuana to young Americans
during the 1970s. A story of strength, intuition and resilience, with strong and powerful women and their impulsive husbands. As greed, passion and honour start to intermingle, a family war may erupt putting their lives, cultures and ancestral traditions at risk. The production has gathered nominations at the Locarno and London festivals, among others.​

Ciro Guerra, Cristina Gallego

​Ciro Guerra was born in 1981 in Colombia. His films have been screened at major festivals such as Cannes, Locarno and Rotterdam. With Embrace of the Serpent (2015), he was nominated for an Oscar for best foreign language film. Cristina Gallego was born in 1978 in Colombia. She teaches at several film schools and has given lectures at the United Nations and TED Talks. Pájaros de Verano is her directorial debut.​
