In a quiet small California town, a serial killer scare students of a high school. Before murdering his victims, he phones them and asks questions about horror films. If the victim gives a wrong answer, he breaks into their house and stabs them violently. Young Sidney Prescott, whose mother was murdered when she was 1 year old, survives one of the manic’s attack. From then on, the villain gets obsessed with her. The film revolutionized 1990s horror cinema and is presented in Rio Film Festival as a tribute to master Wes Craven, who died this year.

Nasceu em 1939, em Cleveland, EUA. Graduou-se em letras e psicologia, com mestrado em filosofia e literatura. Começou no cinema dirigindo filmes pornográficos. Seu primeiro longa convencional foi Aniversário macabro (1972). É um dos nomes mais conhecidos do cinema de horror mundial, com filmes como Quadrilha de sádicos (1977), A hora do pesadelo (1984), As criaturas atrás das paredes (1991) e a série Pânico. Faleceu em 2015.
