Anne Goupil, a literature student in Paris in the 1950s, becomes part of a theatre group which is rehearsing a Shakespeare play. Her older brother, Pierre, takes her to a friends' party where among the guests are Philip Kaufman, an expatriate American fleeing Macarthyism, and Gerard Lenz, accompanied by the mysterious Terry. The event's main discussion involves the possible suicide of Juan, a Spanish activist, friend of the young people who had recently ended his relactionship with Terry.
Jacques Rivette
Jacques Rivette nasceu em março de 1928, na França, e faleceu em 2016. Tornou-se crítico da Cahiers du Cinéma em 1953 e é autor de alguns dos textos mais incisivos e icônicos da publicação. Rivette lançou em 1961 seu primeiro longa, Paris nos pertence, e dirigiu clássicos como A religiosa (1966) e Céline e Julie vão de barco (1974). Editor da Cahiers entre 1963 e 1965, venceu o Grande Prêmio do Júri no Festival de Cannes de 1991 com A bela intrigante.
