Born in Athens, Greece, in 1973. Debuted in feature films with Kinetta (2005). Dogtooth (2009) won Un Certain Regard section at Cannes. Alps (2011) won the Best Screenplay award at the Venice Film Festival and The Lobster (2015) won the Jury Prize at Cannes. The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017) was awarded Best Screenplay at Cannes. The Favourite (2018) won the Grand Jury Prize and the Best Actress Award at Venice. Nominated for ten Oscars, it won one.
