Following the annulment of her father's (M.K.O. Abiola) victory in Nigeria's Presidential Election and her mother's assassination by agents of the military dictatorship, Hafsat Abiola faces the challenge of transforming a corrupt culture of governance into a democracy capable of serving Nigeria's most marginalized population: women. A portrait of the evolution of a pro-democracy movement in Nigeria and the efforts between the progressive groups in the country to increase the participation of women in roles of leadership.

Nasceu nos Estados Unidos, e é cineasta, fotógrafa e escritora. Em 1997, estreou na direção com o documentário em longa-metragem Inside Out: Portraits of Children. Seu projeto para Growing Up Fast, curta-metragem filmado em 1999 sobre gravidez na adolescente, resultou também em um livro homônimo. Em 2006, filmou seu primeiro filme de ficção, Little Fugitive, remake do clássico americano de 1953.
