The Swimmers Land in Rio
Saturday, 15 October, saw what was billed as Festival do Rio’s closing gala screening, Sally El Hosaini’s “The Swimmers”. The film tells the true story of the miraculous journey made by swimming sisters Yusra and Sarah Mardini who fled as refugees from war-torn Syria all the way to, appropriately, the 2016 Rio Olympics.
A second screening is scheduled on Monday at Estação NET Botafogo at 21.30 and the film can also be seen on Netflix, but this is a rare chance to see it on the big screen.
